Scrabble word lists
The lists strong players memorise for awkward racks, from the public-domain ENABLE word list.
Words with Q but no U21 wordsDrawing a Q without a U is the classic Scrabble headache. QAT and QAID are the short ones to memorise. The official Scrabble dictionaries also accept QI, which is newer than the ENABLE list and so is not shown here.Words without vowels121 wordsUseful when your rack is all consonants. Many of these use Y, so keep a Y in mind as a stand-in vowel.Vowel dump words83 wordsPlay these to clear a rack full of vowels in one turn instead of exchanging tiles.Short words with Q19 wordsShort Q words fit into tight spots on a crowded board, and a Q on a triple-letter square is worth 30 points on its own.Short words with Z103 wordsENABLE has no two-letter Z words, so three-letter ones like ADZ, BIZ, COZ and FEZ are the shortest plays. The official Scrabble dictionary adds ZA (and Collins also ZO).Short words with X104 wordsX has five two-letter words, so it can almost always be played next to a vowel for a two-way score.Short words with J125 wordsJO is the only two-letter J word in ENABLE, so learn three-letter ones like HAJ, RAJ, JAB and JOT to avoid getting stuck with it.
