How to use

  1. 1Type a guess you already played (5 letters).
  2. 2Tap each tile until its colour matches the game: grey, yellow or green.
  3. 3Add more rows for each guess. The list of possible words updates as you go.
  4. 4Play one of the best next guesses: the lower its "left" number, the more it narrows down the answer.

FAQ

How are the best next guesses ranked?

Each candidate guess is scored against every likely answer that still fits: we work out the colours it would show for each one and average how many answers would be left. The lower that number, the faster the guess narrows things down. When thousands of answers remain, letter frequency is used instead to keep it instant.

Does it handle double letters?

Yes. If one copy of a letter is yellow or green and another copy is grey, the solver treats that as "the letter appears exactly this many times", which is how Wordle colours repeats.

What is the difference between likely answers and all valid words?

Likely answers are common everyday 5-letter words without plural or past-tense forms, which is what Wordle-style games pick as answers. All valid words is the full ENABLE list of 8,600+ 5-letter words, including rare ones that are accepted as guesses. The solver does not know today's answer; it only lists words that match your clues.

Which dictionary do you use?

ENABLE, a public-domain list of about 173,000 English words used by many word games. It is close to, but not the same as, the official Scrabble or Words With Friends dictionaries, so check a borderline word in your game before you play it.
